چکیده

This paper introduces a Schur-complement based boundary element method (BEM) for predicting the motion of arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional particles under combined external and fluidic force fields. The BEM approach presented here relies entirely on modeling the surface of the computational domain, significantly reducing the number of unknowns when compared to volume-based methods. In addition, the Schur complement based scheme leads to a huge reduction in solution time during timestepping in the microfluidic domain. Parallelized oct-tree based O(N) multilevel iterative solvers are used to accelerate the setup and solution costs.

DRY FILM RESIST FOR FAST FLUIDIC PROTOTYPING P.Vulto1,

Dry film photoresist is used for creating microfluidic structures by sandwiching the patterned resist in between of two substrates. The technique is applied for creating hybrid biochips for dielectrophoretic cell manipulation. Multiple level lithography is demonstrated and biocompatibility of the resist is proven. Due to simple fabrication procedures the resist can be processed in a low-tech en...

The effects of suspending medium on dielectrophoretic systems for separating and sorting carbon nanotubes

The separation of two different types of multi-walled carbon nanotubes is studied in a dielectrophoresis-based microchannel system in seven different solvents as the suspending medium.  A simple model was developed to predict the behavior of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes in the above mentioned system. Then, the equations of motion for the multi-walled carbon nanotubes in that system were in...
